Residential General Contractor
in Houston
Remodels, additions, ADUs, outdoor living, and custom homes for Houston-area homeowners, permitted, scheduled, and inspected by one accountable team.
What we build for Houston homeowners
Houston's Preferred Contractors is a residential general contractor for homeowners across Greater Houston. We remodel kitchens and bathrooms, build home additions, ADUs, garage apartments, detached garages, and custom homes, and handle outdoor living: patio covers, outdoor kitchens, and residential concrete. One team coordinates the design, pulls the permits, schedules the licensed trades, and books the inspections, and every project starts with a free itemized quote.
We also build commercial projects, covered on our commercial construction services page. This page is for homeowners.

Permits, insurance, and warranty
No state GC license, real permits
Texas has no state license for general contractors, and Houston does not issue one. The checks happen on the work: we pull City of Houston building and trade permits inside city limits, the right city or county permits elsewhere, and use state-licensed plumbers, electricians, and HVAC techs for the trade work.
Liability and workers' comp
We carry general liability and workers' compensation coverage, so property damage or a crew injury on your job is covered by the contractor's policy, not your homeowner's insurance.
Written warranty
Our workmanship is backed by a written warranty, and its terms are spelled out in your contract before work begins, not after the final payment.
How a residential project runs
- Step 1
Site visit
We walk the house with you, look at the framing, panel, and plumbing that the project touches, and confirm which permitting authority covers your address.
- Step 2
Free itemized quote
Every phase is priced as its own line — demolition, structure, trades, finishes, permits — so you can see what each decision adds before you sign.
- Step 3
Design, selections, and approvals
Drawings, engineering where the structure changes, and long-lead orders like cabinets and windows happen while permit and any HOA review are in progress.
- Step 4
Construction
A dedicated superintendent sequences the trades, books each inspection before walls close, and keeps you posted on what happens week to week.
- Step 5
Final inspection and handover
The permit is closed out with the jurisdiction, punch items are finished, and you get the warranty paperwork for the work we performed.
Timelines by project type are in the pricing table above. For a full week-by-week breakdown of a remodel, see our Houston home remodeling services.

Hiring a Houston General Contractor.
Homeowners are our focus. We remodel kitchens and bathrooms, build additions, ADUs, garages, and custom homes, and handle outdoor living and concrete across Greater Houston. We also take on commercial buildouts, but a residential project is managed as a home project, with the family living in or around the work in mind.
Texas does not issue a state license for general contractors, and the City of Houston does not either. What is regulated is the work: building permits and inspections from the jurisdiction, and state licenses for the plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians who perform the trade work. We pull permits for our projects and use licensed trades on every job that needs them.
We do, under our name. Inside Houston city limits that means the City of Houston building and trade permits with inspections along the way. Suburbs such as Pearland, Sugar Land, and Bellaire run their own permit offices, and unincorporated areas go through the county, often with MUD or HOA review on top. We confirm which applies to your address before the quote is final.
Yes. We carry general liability and workers' compensation coverage for our residential projects. Whoever you hire, ask to see current coverage before work starts so an injury or property damage on your job is not your financial problem.
It depends on scope. A full kitchen remodel typically runs 8 to 12 weeks, a primary bathroom 4 to 8 weeks, and a home addition 3 to 6 months. Long-lead items like custom cabinets are ordered before demolition so the house is not opened up while waiting on materials.
Request a free itemized quote. After a site visit we price each phase separately, including permits and any engineering, so you can compare options line by line instead of working from a single lump-sum number.
